The Basel III and new aviation sector of understanding (NASU) rules will leave banks with less available cash to finance aircraft and export credit will be more expensive. However, it could result in more borrowers going to the capital markets to finance aircraft, financiers said at the first day of 31st Annual New York Airfinance Conference.
“The higher cost of capital will make financing aircraft more expensive and the implementation of Basel III will move more financing to the capital markets,” said Patrick Kaufer, managing director, Deutsche Bank.
