Order HereEmirates Group services subsidiary Dnata has acquired the remaining 50% of Italian catering and cleaning firm Servair Airchef for an unspecified sum.
Dnata’s Alpha subsidiary first bought in to Servair Airchef in 2001, but it has now acquired a further 50% stake from Air France catering arm Servair, taking it to 100% ownership.
“We are not disclosing any financial information about the deal. I can confirm the shares were purchased from Servair, Air France’s inflight catering unit,” a Dnata spokeswoman told ATW.
Servair Airchef employs around 700 staff, producing 40,000 meals each day, and is active at 23 airports including Rome, Milan and Venice. It also offers aircraft cleaning services at seven Italian airports.
“The full acquisition of this business reflects Dnata’s long-term strategy to further invest in its core business,” said Dnata divisional VP Stewart Angus. “The Italian business complements our existing in-flight catering and cabin cleaning operations around the world. The company has a strong, dynamic management team and I am confident that together we can develop the business further.”
Over the past two years Dnata has rapidly expanded its catering activities, acquiring stakes in Alpha Flight Group, Wings Inflight Service in South Africa and En Route International. Alpha also recently formed a UK joint venture with LSG Skychefs and a South African joint venture called Dnata Newrest.
