Order HereSingapore-based low-cost carrier (LCC) Jetstar Asia will extend its route network with new schedules to Palembang and Pekanbaru, Indonesia and Da Nang, Vietnam.
The carrier will start flights from late October-early November to the three new destinations, using Airbus A320 aircraft in a 180-seat configuration. All routes will see 3X-weekly services.
The Da Nang schedule will be Jetstar Asia’s second Vietnamese destination, following its opening of a route to Ho Chi-Minh City in early 2012, although its sister Jetstar subsidiary Jetstar Pacific serves 15 Vietnamese destinations.
The LCC’s route expansion from Changi Airport follows a surge in budget carrier activity from Singapore’s airport, with AirAsia Berhad, Indonesia AirAsia and Thai AirAsia all signing up for the new Terminal 4, and recent AirAsia route permits on Padang, Sumatra services.
Following Singapore Airlines LCC offshoot Scoot’s announcement that it is to launch Boeing 787 services to Melbourne in November, Jetstar Group has also upgraded its Singapore-Melbourne schedule to newer, more efficient aircraft.
The newly introduced 5X-weekly Singapore-Melbourne Tullamarine service sees Jetstar move from Airbus A330-200 operations, which it has been using since 2010, to new Boeing 787 aircraft.
Jetstar Asia CEO, Bara Pasupathi said the new 787 service would mean a “substantial fuel saving and cost benefit to help us keep fares low.”
